Swords of Chaos heldur partí!
Fyrsta breiðskífa Swords of Chaos er nú loks tilbúin til útgáfu og mun koma út 3. september næstkomandi. THE END IS AS NEAR AS YOUR TEETH heitir breiðskífan og kemur hún út hjá Kimi Records. Platan verður hinsvegar fáanleg í forsölu hjá GOGOYOKO frá og með miðvikudeginum 25. ágúst. Í tilefni af forsölu þá ætlar hljómsveitin að halda for-útgáfutónleika og hlustunarteiti á Venue miðvikudaginn 25. ágúst kl. 21. Þar verður hljómplatan spiluð við hátíðalega athöfn og svo munu hljómsveitirnar Stilluppsteypa og Orphic Oxtra leika tónlist sína í kjölfarið.
THE END IS AS NEAR AS YOUR TEETH inniheldur 11 lög eftir þá Albert Finnbogason (gítar), Ragnar Jón Hrólfsson (trommur), Úlf Alexander Einarsson (söngur) og Úlf Hansson (bassi). Hljómsveitin hefur unnið að plötunni undanfarin tvö ár og fyrst núna í sumar urðu allir aðilar ásáttir um að ekki yrði gert betur. Meðal þeirra sem leggja þeim lið á plötunni er tónlistarkonan Kira Kira og sex manna brasssveit.
Í síðastliðnum janúarmánuði komu fram ótímabærar fregnir af andláti sveitarinnar en þar virðist hafa verið um einhvers konar fjölmiðlabrellu að ræða, jafnvel til að fá fólk til að mæta á tónleika, tónleika sem margir töldu þeirra síðustu. Þrátt fyrir þessar fregnir þá hafa þeir komið fram á nokkrum tónleikum nú í sumar og munu halda nokkra tónleika til viðbótar á næstu mánuðum til að fylgja TEIANAYT.
Um upptökur sá Friðrik Helgason, Aron Arnarsson sá um hljóðblöndun og Helmut Elrer hljómjafnaði. Umslagshönnun var í höndum Söru Riel og Svavar Pétur Eysteinsson sá um uppsetningu. Sara Riel hannaði einnig bol sem er nú fáanlegur í Havarí. Hann er hálfgerð skyldueign fyrir aðdáendur sveitarinnar.
Benni Hemm Hemm slær í gegn á Fringe í Edinborg
Tónlistarmaðurinn Benedikt H. Hermannsson vinnur um þessar mundir við sýningar á leikverkinu The Track of the Cat sem sýnt er á Fringe leiklistarhátíðinni í Edinborg. Benedikt samdi tónlist fyrir uppsetninguna sem og flytur hana meðan á sýningum stendur.
Verkið er byggt á samnefndri skáldsögu Walter Van Tilburg Clark frá árinu 1949 og skoski rithöfundurinn Chris Fittock og leikstjórinn Graeme Maley setja það upp. Verkið fjallar um landnemafjölskyldu í vesturríkjum Bandaríkjana á 19. öld og baráttu þeirra við náttúruöflin, einangrun og eigin fortíð. Uppsetningin er sérstök að öll hlutverk eru leikin af konum og eini karlmaðurinn á sviði er Benedikt sjálfur.
Verkið hefur fengið afar góða dóma og þá sérstaklega tónlist og flutningur Benedikts. Segir meðal annars í dómi hátíðarinnar:

FILM to release single in Icelandic followed by performance at Iceland Airwaves
Athenian avant-garde four-piece FILM are currently recording a single with Hildur Kristín Stefánsdóttir, the soothing voice of Rökkurró, Iceland’s finest folk-pop outfit. ‘Harmur Fuglsins’ (Icelandic for Sorrow of the Bird) is the arresting outcome of a collaboration infused by strikingly contrasting geographical and artistic backgrounds, to be released in September on Kimi Records. Subsequently the band will perform on 8-10 September in Berlin at the international music trade fair Popkomm, followed by a common appearance with Hildur at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík on 13-17 October.
FILM’s compelling cinematic soundscapes revolve around nihilistic urban settings and inspire celluloid fantasies. Their work, as it morphs into a nebulous dark-wave amalgamation of post-punk and electronic facets, resembles the mystique of a lost, enigmatic motion picture. Their flickering sequences, sombre sonic textures, distorted outbreaks and the angelic vocal touches draw inspiration directly from the iconic legacy of FILM’s universally-acclaimed compatriot Vangelis. Sudden Weather Change have released a 7inch on Kimi Records. It contains two brand new songs and is the first 7inch of three before they release their sophomore LP.

Their songwriting may remind people of the more complex side of Sonic Youth – with hypnotizing guitar lines interweaving with a solid bass and drum combo to create a huge wall of sound which goes perfectly with their none-sensical yet strangely cohesive lyrics that could make any literature buff go nuts. However, their attitude on stage might bring to mind political riots in 70’s Paris or the annual Running of the Bulls in Pamplona – …while their loud guitars should please J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr.
After releasing a home-recorded EP in 2006, Sudden Weather Change have gathered huge praise in Icelandic press, as well as with any foreign tabloid writers which have been lucky enough to witness the band performing (they have only once toured outside of Iceland). In April 2009 they released their first full-length album Stop! Handgrenade In The Name of Crib Death ‘nderstand? with Kimi Records in Iceland who went on to release the album in the rest of the world in October of the same year.

Kimi Records has released an album with Tape Tum (BE). The Night We Called it a Day is now available all over Europe.
Starting out in the rural town of Beernem as an attic project, Tape Tum are now a fully-fledged outfit with a support slot for the legendary post-rock experimentalists Tortoise and a contribution to the Domino compilation of prominent UK magazine Wire in their arsenal.
Their debut album ‘The Night We Called It Α Day’ is a collection of nine graceful, hypnotic–textured compositions with ample experimental tendencies. Balancing masterfully between the analogue and digital domain, the Belgian brothers of Benjamin and Lieven Dousselaere demonstrate an impressive songcrafting aptitude, enhanced with continental ethics and an evident love for Grizzly Bear, the Beach Boys and Sparklehorse.
Tape Tum will travel to Iceland this summer and tour with the Kimi Records Summer Fun Tour from 14th to 18th of July.

Sudden Weather Change are a alternative rock band from Iceland. Five artschool kids and childhood friends from Reykjavík got together started messing around with guitars. Their sound has been compared to the sound of bands like Sonic Youth, Pavement, Polvo and countless other 90′s alt-rock bands from the U.S. Stop! Handgrenade in the Name of Crib Death’nderstand? is their first full length album and contains 13 juicy, guitar heavy songs. The band has been together for 3 years and released a home-made EP in late 2007 by themselves, which sold out after a short, but successful tour in France. Sudden Weather Change have been glorified by the icelandic music press recently, who have hailed their crazy, loud and astounding live shows, with Morgunblaðið (Iceland’s oldest and most respected newspaper) naming them the most promising band of 2009, when predicting the year in music. In 2010 they where named the Best New Artist at the Icelandic Music Awards.

More Benni Hemm Hemm goodness…
After their SPOT performance Benni Hemm Hemm will travel to Oslo and play at Mono (at Youngstorget) at 22:00. Chances are that the band will perform songs from their latest release Retaliate EP, but they might as well also premier some brand new material from their upcoming LP that will be recorded in Iceland in June.
Also a video has been released for Retaliate, the title song of the new EP. It was hand-drawn and directed by Michael Kirkham and Vivien McDermid. It is actually a video to the whole EP.

After Scandinavia Benni Hemm Hemm will perform at the Reykjavík Arts Festival and at AIM Festival in Akureyri. Those two shows are specially produced for the performance of a brand new set of songs, Ryk á Book, and will be performed by Benni Hemm Hemm along with Scottish singer and guitarist Alasdair Roberts and the Reykjavík Wind Ensemble.

An Icelandic band called Sudden Weather Change couldn’t be more relevant these volcano-tormented days… The absolute noise-specialists give you a sneak preview of their second album to be released later this year.
The Whaler is a 7″ that will contain two songs: The Whaler and Thin Liner. It will be released in June on Kimi Records as a digital download. The physical version can be purchased in selected records stores or at any SWC gig during their upcoming tour.

Retrön – Swordplay & Guitarslay loks fáanleg í verslunum
Fyrsta breiðskífa hljómsveitarinnar Retrön er nú loks fáanleg í verslunum. Platan Swordplay & Guitarslay átti að koma út fyrir mánuði en vegna flókinnar hönnunar á umslagi tafðist framleiðsluferlið töluvert. Umslagið er í raun kastali Retrön liða og er öll hönnun mjög í anda hlutverkaleikja á borð við AD&D. Hönnun var á höndum Kolbeins Huga, Kára og Arnars Inga.
